There are many facets to the Green Man (also known as foliate head carvings) and many are to be found in East Anglia. Carved in wood and stone many of the examples on this website date back to 14th century CE and in some cases even earlier.

The Green Man is very much a part of modern day thinking, his image is seen as a symbol of the forces of nature that are under threat from mankind's increasing impact upon planet Earth.
